Hi! I’m Kaitlyn, and I’m SO glad you’re here. I’m 24 years old, and recently graduated from the University of Texas in 2019 with both a Bachelors degree in Architectural Engineering and a Masters degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
**Nerd Alert**
I currently live in Plano, Texas and work at the forensic engineering firm that I interned with every summer of college. Hearts out to them for putting up with me for so long..
My passion for running began in February 2019. Running has always been part of my family life–my dad is a k i l l e r marathon runner. He was always training for something and I never quite understood it. Actually, I remember very well tagging along on a run with him sometime while I was in middle school and hating life after taking 5 steps off the front porch. My dad’s great though, ever supportive and gently pushed me to keep at it. Finger snaps for him, because really I owe a lot of this passion to him and look up to him. I have run 2 half marathons with him, and waited at the finish line for countless marathons that he ran. His runner’s bug infected me, to say the least.
Enough of that mushy stuff and dad talk though. This is about me. ME. So I started running and eating healthy and feeling really really great during my last semester of grad school and then ended up crashing and burning real hard. I developed an eating disorder after consistently underfueling myself. I didn’t see it at first, and it has taken so so so much work to get my mind back to having a healthy relationship with food and with my body. I wouldn’t even really consider myself out of the woods yet, hence the bloggy blog.
Since my obsession with running began, I have consumed a lot of liquid IV (can’t live without) and honey stinger waffles and tailwind and protein shakes. All running-fuel related. But real food is important too. There was a time when an avocado scared me. And bread. And anything sweet. That’s what an eating disorder does though. I’m getting a lot better and my goal with this blog is to document my progress and maybe even be a light for others out there struggling like me. I didn’t even know underfueling myself was possible when it first started, and I wish more than anything that I could go back and tell that Kait what I know now.
I never thought I’d be such a consistent runner, but here I am. My free time consists of not really being free. I spend it running a lotttt, painting or drawing, reading anything and everything James Patterson, feebly trying to keep up with the current She Reads Truth bible plan, finding new salmon recipes to cook, binging all the things on streaming services (really, ask my friends how many shows I watch, its probably unhealthy) and hanging out with family and friends.
I’m not a writer. At all. My job requires “technical” writing…and…yeah..that’s still a work in progress. I probably won’t re-read a post for errors before posting it bc that would take entirely wayyy too much time. And be too professional? Lol. We don’t need professionalism here. This is the real real. You don’t even know what you’ve gotten yourself into. And on that note, I probably don’t either…
Peace n blessins my friends,
RunnerGirlKait

Structural Engineering
I work for a forensic engineering firm. Sounds fancy n cool, and it definitely is. I love my job. We get to go out and explore and travel and more importantly, determine the structural integrity of houses, hotels, hospitals, you name it. Buildings are cool and I’m a nerd.
Running (duh)
I’ve run a few fun 5K’s, the University of Texas Longhorn 10K Run 4 times over, and 3 half marathons so far. I’m thinkin hard about a full marathon, with the dream of Boston Qualifying like immediately, because why not?
Painting
I’m an avid arts-and-crafts-er. I LOVE watercolors and painting flowers, as well as lettering pretty things on my iPad Pro. I also recently got into gouache paints, and those are fun too. I don’t get time for it often, so I make the most and cherish those moments of creativity 🙂
Shopping(?)
I didn’t know what else to put on this little bolg blurb, but my perfectionism required that I fill it out. And shopping can definitely be an expertise. I love it. A l w a y s looking for good deals. mainly on running clothes and accessories. Or the sale on sale on sale at the Loft. Whichever comes first after I get my paycheck!
Let’s make something together.
